Handy tips to utilise your outdoor space

At Graduate Landscapes, we believe that one of the easiest and most effective ways to utilise your outside space is to create an outdoor living area. A space where you can unwind with a cup of tea on a Monday afternoon or (space permitting) throw a fabulous al-fresco dinner party on a balmy summer’s night. Here are a few handy tips to consider when planning your outdoor living space:

Aspect – get to know your garden by noting what areas receive sun and at what time of the day.

Scale – Ensure your patio is in proportion to the rest of your garden. In a large garden a small patio may become insignificant and vice-versa. Pergolas can help create dappled shade whilst also creating a comfortable space, which relates well to the human scale.

Plants – Not only add interest in the way of colour, form and texture but also help integrate these seating areas back into the garden.
